This book is a first attempt at giving the readers an overall picture on the state of the environment in Hungary in English. Its major aim has been not to treat all the problems but to provide information on selected fields.
It was written in a period (1988-1990) when fundamental changes took place in the political and economical structures of Hungary and the assertion of human rights and the establishment of the parlamentary democracy came about.
